Argentina Government Approves New CBI Program

Argentina Citizenship by Investment Law Now Approved

Back in May we reported the news of Argentina preparing to launch a Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme. As of July 30th, 2025, this has now been officially approved under Decree 524/2025, marking a historic move as Argentina becomes the first South American country to offer direct citizenship in exchange for investment.

Several sources have suggested the programme will require a minimum investment of $500,000, but the official price is one of few things left to be confirmed.

Argentina CBI Overview – What We Know So Far:

  • Direct Citizenship – No Residency Required
Investors will not need to reside in Argentina. The citizenship route will be granted directly on the basis of an approved economic investment.
  • Estimated Investment from USD 500,000
Although the final threshold is still to be confirmed, early indications suggest a minimum qualifying investment of approximately $500,000, to be directed into strategic sectors such as agribusiness, tech, renewable energy, tourism infrastructure, or government bonds.
  • Real Estate Limitations
Passive real estate investment will not qualify unless tied to an active, approved project that contributes to employment or economic development.
  • 30-Day Processing Window
Once the investment is completed and due diligence cleared, the National Directorate of Migration is required to decide on the application within 30 business days.
  • Robust Oversight and Due Diligence
A newly established agency under the Ministry of Economy will coordinate application processing, working across multiple departments including security, finance, and tax authorities to ensure comprehensive background checks.
  • Legally Backed and Transparent
The CBI programme has been formally integrated into Argentina’s citizenship legislation (Law 346) and can only be denied on specific, documented grounds. This provides applicants with legal clarity and protection.
  • Highly Attractive Passport
Argentine citizens enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 183 countries, including the EU Schengen Area, UK, Japan, and more. The Argentine Passport is the strongest passport in Latin America and ranked 53rd overall in La Vida’s comprehensive Global Passport Ranking

Argentina Gain USA Visa Waiver Status

In another major development, the United States recently reinstated Argentina into their Visa Waiver Program, allowing citizens to enter the US visa-free for up to 90 days -further boosting the global appeal of an Argentine passport. Only 42 countries in the world are part of the visa-waiver program. To enter the USA under this agreement all visitors much complete an online ESTA form (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) prior to their visit. This simple online form takes just minutes to complete and is approved within 24 to 48 hours, but often within minutes following submission. Other countries such as UK, Australia, Italy, France, Germany, New Zealand and Chile all enjoy this visa waiver benefit too.
